Client

 

The client is an environmental laboratory and has been providing air, water and waste water analytical services to government agencies, consultants and the private industry for over 2 decades.

 

Need

 

The client wanted a web based application for the Environmental Laboratory. Limited functionality in off-the-shelf products, inefficient reporting processes and absence of comprehensive set of data formats built the need for a custom EDD solution.

 

Solution

 

INDUSA built a web application for the Environmental Laboratory. The main function of the Electronic Data Delivery (EDD) component is the retrieval of environmental laboratory analysis data to generate output files based on specific format requirements. The application collects the analytical results from a number of tests and then processes those results against reporting standards, thus helping to generate an elaborate report in electronic form that provides comprehensive information about the results and their variance from expected standards. The application involves recording client’s reporting requirements including QC, validation and verification and specific presentation format, then mapping the Lab’s project and results database to the report fields and performing validation for each item. Data tools for Extract, Transform and Load were also built within the application.

 

For each client, a project is set up and an Electronic Quality Assurance Project Plan is defined, which holds information like Analytical methods that needs to be performed on the samples, the analytes which needs to be reported for each method, reporting limits for each analyte, QC rules that needs to be applied in Data profiling and mode of delivery of a generated EDD.

 

The EDD is designed in a scalable, flexible architecture using XML and SOA including Web Services. The Application is designed in a manner such that minimum changes are required to plug it into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). The application was built to meet regulatory standards. Performance and Usability were given utmost importance while building the application.
