US-based University implements SharePoint to facilitate exams for distance learning students

Client

The client is a US based university that offers distance learning services.

Need

The client requires the development of a secured portal based system to facilitate exams for distance learning students which includes an Admin view, student view, proctor view, and faculty view.

Solution

INDUSA developed a portal for managing student exams online for distance learning students. The company built the portal using Microsoft SharePoint with several user groups including Proctor, Student, Faculty and Admin.

For each user group, different permissions and limitations were levied according to the client’s terms. The categories where access rights were defined and these included login, user rights, home page, upload/download rights and other miscellaneous features.

The login functionality for different users was secured and was presented only to authenticated users. Mixed authentication was used (AD authentication for university users and SQL authentication for out of university people).

The portal included Google Map Integration that included Google map API integration for plotting of the different sites on the map.

There was a manage section having the ability to add/edit/delete and manage students, proctors, exams, faculty, and sites. Portal admin also had the capability to manage announcements that would be displayed to specific user groups.

Further, maintenance services were provided by INDUSA other than post implementation support, which included bug fixing, troubleshooting, assistance, and minor changes to the developed portal.
