Ahmedabad, India — 28 October, 2016 — Indusa conducted, “Idea-A-Thon, Powering Innovation,” on October 14, 2016. Idea-A-Thon, like any other type of code-a-thon, hack-a-thon, or code-fest is a sprint event where programmers collaborate extensively on software projects to create usable solutions. Idea-A-Thon went a step beyond generating ideas to creating usable solutions. With digitization sweeping the IT industry and talks about the tectonic changes it is bringing, the organizers very aptly zeroed in on “Digitizing Employee Engagement” as the central theme for the event. Indusa team members across functions were encouraged to present their ideas and ways to improve employee engagement and collaboration at Indusa by utilizing digital technologies. The teams were briefed to develop solutions, applications and present research presentations within a stipulated time frame of 72 hours with pre-defined guidelines for participation.

Idea-A-Thon solicited and encouraged participation from employees of every role in the organization, including developers, testers, network administrators, sales, HR, marketers, or functional consultants. The same level of enthusiasm was shared by everyone at Indusa as it offered them a host of fun activities such as socializing outside regular working hours, delicious food options, and an opportunity to make new friends over a cup of coffee while discussing loads of innovative ideas.

Idea-A-Thon saw enthusiastic participation from 24 teams, with each team comprised of between three and five participants displaying their ideas on how to improve employee engagement through digital technologies. Some of the refreshingly new and invigorating ideas included a Food Ordering Mobile App, Interview Management Tool, Employee Safety Mobile App, Employee Engagement Mobile App, Internal Knowledge Sharing Platform for Indusa employees, Project Tracking and Task Management Application, Easy Locate Buddy App, amongst others.

The kind of energy and vigor shown by the employees in making this event successful and memorable was endorsed and well appreciated by all, including the senior management. Competitions have their winners but that is not what they are really meant for. Competitions are held for discovering innovators, encouraging bold thinking, and crafting success stories out of them. The aim of Idea-A-Thon was no different, and it too had its set of winners from the technical as well as the non-technical front; but more importantly, we identified and encouraged innovators and leaders.
